it is obvious there are way too
many Smartphones out there. It is
also safe to say the Galaxy and
iPhone are the most popular.
However, the newest versions of
these two popular flagships differ
in various ways. iPhone 5S is
smaller, a screen that is equally
small, a premium build and
software and hardware made by
one company. Samsung Galaxy S5
is a little bigger with a larger
screen, a finish made of plastic
and lots of features. Each
Smartphone brings something
different on the table.
The Galaxy S5 is 24% wider and
15% longer that the iPhone 5S and
7% thicker. This means that if you
put the iPhone 5S in your hand, it
slides right into your palm
comfortably. With the Galaxy, you
will have to stretch your fingers
just to grip the phone well.
Design
Externally, iPhone 5S is close to
iPhone 5, its predecessor but
appears more like a Smartphone
expensive and high-tech than GS5
especially if the plastic (faux
leather) finish of the Galaxy S5 is
anything to go by. The Galaxy
might have a metallic appearance
around the edges but it is also
plastic made. However, the
pleather Galaxy S5 finish is quite
comfortable once you hold it. The
soft-touch make ensures holding
the big device is not
uncomfortable.
The Galaxy S5 comes
waterproofed while any moisture
in the iPhone 5S' ports could lead
to big problems. The Galaxy's USB
flap has rubber seals around the
bottom including the battery
cover's inside.
Size
The iPhone 5S is a little lighter and
you can use it in your hand
without a problem. You might not
even notice you have it in your
pocket. iPhone 5S is 123.8 by 58.6
by 7.6mm and 112g in weight as
indicated.
The Galaxy S5 on the other hand is
142 by 75.5 by 8.1mm and 145g in
weight.
While both Smartphones are way
lighter than others in the market,
the iPhone 5S is lighter than the
Galaxy by 30g. In terms of
thickness, the Smartphones are
also the slimmest you will find
around although the 5S wins
against the Galaxy at 7.6mm while
the S5 is 8.1mm.
Fingerprint Scanner
The S5 and 5S are the first
Smartphones to have fingerprint
scanners as some of their
features, as much as they are
diverse in their operation. The
iPhone's TouchID scanner is on
the Home button with that of the
Galaxy at the select button's
center, arguably lying on the
same place.
GS5 comes with a fingerprint
sensor, a swipe-based type of
scanner while on the iPhone S5
you only need to rest the finger
on the phones home button for a
short time. The two sensors are
very impressive but the iPhone's
is much easier and rapid to use,
allowing the user to scan the print
from all angles. On the Galaxy, you
can only swipe a finger from a
similar direction each time.
Fingerprint sensors come in
handy as passcodes and once the
fingerprint security has been set
and a passcode securely selected,
there is no need of using the code
since the phone will be easier to
unlock through a finger.
TouchID for the iPhone allows the
user to use the fingerprint to
allow App Store and iTunes
purchases. For the Galaxy's
fingerprint, you can also use it to
swipe for PayPal login and also
access adjoined third-party
applications.
Screen
Galaxy S5 has a 5.1-inch super
AMOLED 1080p resolution while
the iPhone 5S has a 4-inch IPS LCD
1536 by 640 resolution.
Storage
Galaxy S5 has a microSD slot
below the battery cover with both
16GB and 32GB phone versions
available. The iPhone 5S doesn't
have a microSD slot but you can
get the phone in 16 GB, 32GB or
64GB version.
RAM and CPU
Galaxy S5 comes with a 22GB RAM
and Snapdragon 801 2.5GHz
processor. The iPhone has a 1GB
RAM and Apple A7 64-bit 1.4GHz
processor.
Camera
In terms of camera, the iPhone 5S
has a 1.2MP, 8 megapixel front
camera, while the Galaxy S5 has a
2MP, ISOCELL sensor, 16 megapixel
front camera.
